Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification Course

Pre-requisites: A skills test will be preformed at the beginning of the first class. Participants must be able to swim 300 Yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing with the Freestyle and Breaststroke strokes. Tread water for 2 minutes only using your legs keeping your head above the water. And complete a timed skill under 1:40 seconds, which requires the participant to swim 20 yards, complete a surface dive of 7 or more feet, and retrieve a 10 - pound diving brick and return the brick back to the starting point. Students will need to be strong swimmer and be able to open eyes underwater and demonstrate good breath control. If a student can not pass the skills test, registration cost will be refunded.

Course Description: The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry level lifeguards with the knowledge and rescue skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Provide professional level of care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical personnel (EMS) take over. The program offers certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED training and First Aid training. This is a blended learning course where there will be video demonstrations for the candidates to view before the skills session.

Age Requirement: The participant must be 15 years of age as of the last day of the class.

Equipment Needed: Women: a one-piece swim suit. Men:  a swim suit. Everyone: goggles, a swim cap or hair ties, towels, sunscreen, sunglasses,  a hat for face protection, and a  whistle. Please bring drinking water, snacks and a  sack lunch, unless you plan on leaving to get lunch on your own. Extra clothing if the weather is inclement is suggested. 

Time: The class begins at 9:00 am and concludes at 3:00 pm .Arrive 10 minutes before the class begins. Students must attend the full course ( All 4 days). If an emergency arises and you can not attend class, you must contact the instructor to possibly make up class time that is missed.

 A $50 supply fee must be paid to the instructor, Mike Sansavera, the first day of class. 

Instructor: Mike Sansavera has 39 years in Aquatics as a Swim Coach (currently coaching at Pieper High School as the Head Girls & Boys Swim Coach) and ARC Instructor and coaching competitive swimming, background in aquatic development & recreational programs, and safety and service for community pools.
